Cellular concrete is a type of concrete that is made using Portland Cement, water, and a preformed foam. The foam is combined with the cement slurry using a static mixer. The resulting concrete is lightweight, very flowable, and stable with virtually no bleed water.
While a building can never be entirely fireproof, the act of fireproofing and firestopping ensures that the structure holds up against a fire better. Some materials are more susceptible to fire, but applying a fire resistant coating allows the building to put up a stronger defense. That way, it is more resistant against higher temperatures and lasts longer when subjected to flame. With fireproofing materials put in place, the damage is minimal to a building if a fire occurs and there will be fewer repair costs after if it’s caught in time.
On one hand, fireproofing and firestopping is an extra expense, but on the other hand, the price is worth it in case a fire emergency ever occurs. By protecting a building with fire resistant material, there will be far less damage and fewer repairs if an emergency transpires. To save on even more expensive costs later on and to protect your building as a whole, fireproofing is always a great investment.
Underlayment is a must for durable flooring that lasts for years. It works to protect your building from mold, mildew, and moisture. Plus, it minimizes loud sounds and the risk of a fire with its sound and fire resistant qualities.
IIC and FIIC are measures of how soundproof a material is, but there’s a slight difference between the two terms. Impact Insulation Class (IIC) is the lab rating of a material’s sound resistance. Field Impact Insulation Class (FIIC) is a more accurate on-site test that takes the combined soundproofing materials into account. These measures are both based on how well the chosen material reduces impact noises like footfall, scraping, jumping, etc. With a higher IIC or FIIC (multifamily buildings want to be around 55 FIIC), there’s a higher level of acoustic insulation in a material, which means that sounds are significantly reduced.
Spray foam, fiberglass, and cellulose are all great options for insulating a house or commercial building. But it’s important to know the differences between each type of insulation and, figure out what your structure needs before you request services from Structis:
